About My Quilts

T-Shirt Quilts are a fun and affordable way to enjoy your
t-shirts and the memories they hold for years to come.

All my quilts include:

  • Pellon SF101 cotton interfacing, which provides very light-weight but important stability. It also goes through the washer and dryer beautifully
  • Anti-pill fleece or cotton flannel backing with multiple color options.
  • Personal consultation on what size panel will work best for your quilt (typically based on the size of your shirts) and your input on t-shirt layout, if desired.

I will cut your t-shirts with tools specifically designed to produce perfectly centered squares, guaranteeing a professional look to your quilt. You can use any shirt, no matter how worn.

Is it a Quilt or Blanket?

Although commonly referred to as a T-shirt Quilt, I would say it is something between a traditional quilt and a blanket.  For the sake of making this explanation easier to follow, I will refer it as a Memory Blanket, or MB.

Like a quilt, the MB has more than one layer.  It typically has either two layers, t-shirts on the top and fleece on the back, or three layers, with interfacing in the middle to stabilize the t-shirts so that they keep their shape, while adding just a soft touch of heft.  I use 100% cotton interfacing as my third layer.  (See my daughter Annie’s testimonial to get her take on the difference that adding interfacing makes.)  The middle layer of a traditional quilt is called batting, which is thicker and is usually made of polyester or cotton.

Another difference is that the vast majority of MBs, including mine, are not stitched throughout the surface to hold the layers together and to keep the batting from shifting.  It just takes a few strategically placed hand-stiches to secure the back to the front.  Personally, I think that the stitching interferes with the shirt graphics, which, after all, is what shows the memories.

There are also three other very practical differences.  (1) The absence of batting in the middle makes the MB easier to cuddle with.  It’s the perfect weight.   (2)  The MB goes through the washer and dryer just beautifully.  Nothing on the inside moves or stretches.  (3) Price.  The average starting price of a traditional 48” x 72” quilt is about $600 – $700.
